Construction (Design and Management) Coordination CDMC

Any construction project associated with a business or undertaking creates legal CDM duties for the client under Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2007.

A project is notifiable if it will last more than 30 calendar days or 500 person days, once this is the case there is a legal requirement to appoint a CDM Coordinator.

Stuart Brown Partnership had become concerned that this appointment often represented a formal acceptance of the duties involved only, without any of the benefits that should be a part function. That the minimum necessary to fulfil legal requirements was all that was being offered and carried out. In particular we felt that a CDM Coordinator ought to aid in finding solutions rather than just highlighting issues.

It is our view that in addition to ensuring the client meets all the legal obligations the CDM Coordinator should be able to offer the following facilities:

  • Advice on Health and Safety issues.
  • Production of a complete and useable Health and Safety File.
  • Review of O&M manuals to ensure they can be readily used and updated.
  • Assistance in resolving Health and Safety issues practically.

Obviously we are aware that pressures on budgets are considerable, especially in the current climate, and we believe that the appointment should include all of the above as a part of a competitively priced service, not at any additional cost to the client.

SBP Project (Services) Ltd has been established to provide a cost effective and proactive service. In order to achieve this we have hand picked CDM Coordinators with a proven track record of providing the full service we feel should be offered, and taken personnel with hands-on project experience and given them the necessary formal Health and Safety training (NEBOSH Construction Certificate in Safety and Health). This enables us to integrate Health & Safety requirements with the running of a project practically and proactively.
